Well, D.G. Building (East Cambs) Ltd are a local company who has recently been crowned the regional winner at the prestigious LABC Regional Building Excellence Awards. They are now looking forward to the National Finals, as well as the new and exciting opportunities that the accolade will bring.

The awards night was held in the beautiful surroundings of the Grand Banquet Hall at Kings College in Cambridge and rewarded the high standards maintained by companies and professionals in the building industry from across East Anglia.

This stunning kitchen was installed in to an extension that we did, and sits in a new space that was created by removing a wall between the existing kitchen and garage, which was in turn extended to create this amazing space. The kitchen features a walnut dining bench with many integrated appliances including a built in coffee machine, nature stone tiles, LED lighting and the installation of Bi-Fold doors out on the paved garden terrace finished it off to an incredibly high standard.

This kitchen required a modern upgrade and we delivered with gloss white units, a contrasting colour of tiling works and server contemporary design ideas in term of storage and appliances.

A 90’s galley kitchen was given an up to date revamp with this kitchen complete with glass splash backs and attractive floor tiling. The kitchen also boasts a number of integrated storage features which area an increasing trend as we aim to maximise storage space within kitchens.

Elm Close, Witchford

This dated kitchen required a complete overhaul, including the removal of two wall to create one open plan dining, kitchen and utility area. Once the space was made we installed this contemporary gloss cream kitchen complete with an attractive island as a centre piece.

Mere Way, Cambridge

On this project we were set the challenge to refurbish an old and extremely poorly laid out kitchen into a functional family space. We did this by removing three walls which created old fashioned coal storage and pantry rooms to create a larger kitchen area. We then removed the existing wall between the kitchen and dining room, and installed bi-fold doors to retain a partition between the two if required. The clients were delighted with the results and the contrast between light units and dark granite worktop made the space seem even larger.

This project involved removing a partition wall between the existing kitchen and dining room. Altering the layout of those rooms and installing this eye catching kitchen design which includes an effective seating and storage area, plus integrated appliances and a built in wine cooler. A real wood floor added the perfect finishing touch.

Deacons Lane, Ely

This project involved a complete overhaul of the kitchen including the plumbing and electrics. The clients wanted to create a fresh new kitchen while maintaining a style that was a sympathetic with the victorian age of the property. We did this by designing a bespoke kitchen that ticked all the boxes including a range cooker, a stunning mantlepiece with period tiles inside the old fireplace, a traditional Belfast sink and framed brass handled cabinets. The whole look was brought together with a mixture of granite and wood worktops, and natural stone floor tiles.

Townsend, Soham

This extension literally doubled the size of the existing house. Planning restrictions meant that the extension needed to look separate to the house in some way, so pitched roof sections above the first floor windows and a slight step back from the original property were added but other than that the extension blended in perfectly due to our care and attention when matching up materials and windows. A single storey sun room attached to the two storey extensions added another dynamic to an already amazing development to the property.

A bungalow in our local area was restricted by old outbuildings, a badly built conservatory and a kitchen that was housed in a poorly insulated extension. We demolished all of these area and built one large extension that incorporated a new bathroom, shower room, kitchen and utility room.

Burwell Road, Exning

A large front extension created an extra two bedrooms, a shower room, an entrance hall and a study. The work was carried out with materials that matched the existing property so that the frontage remained in keeping with the rest of the estate.

Deacons Lane, Ely

This project actually compromised of three extensions to one property. The main two storey brick extension on the back created an extra bedroom upstairs and a dining room downstairs. A timber framed single storey on the back of that made from french oak and large glazed units created a stunning sun room that looked out down the garden. Finally a side extension created a new landing and access to the new areas on the first floor, which was kept light with various glazing installations. A new shower room or rear boot room in the ground floor of the side extension  meant the property went from a small three bedroom house, to a large four bedroom family home with several new living spaces. Most importantly on this project we used re-claimed bricks and sleet roofing materials as well as bespoke timber sash windows and doors to keep the extensions in keeping with the property as it was in a conservation area.

This is an example of what can be created when the space is available. A large walk in shower cubicle and mediterranean style tiling changed a cold and dull bathroom into a warm and inviting space.

Limited space posed a challenge on this project, but we made use of what was available by installing his and hers sinks above vanity units, with a back to wall toilet and shower cubicle which was created by using the space made by knocking through to an unused built in cupboard that was in the room next door.

High Street, Haddenham

This project was a delight to work on as the client wanted us to remove a poorly installed modern bathroom which was not in keeping with the age of their property, with something that fitted in with the period and style of the rest of the house. We did this by using brand new tiles and bathroom suite that were designed and produced in a traditional manner. Traditional titles and colours were used to complete the project and the results were fantastic.

Sometimes just simply changing bathroom items can create an amazing transformation. On this project the size of the bathroom meant that the layout had to stay the same, but we swapped a date avocado coloured suite for a new white one, and re-tiled the whole room to create a fresh up to date looking bathroom.

Extending our homes has become ever more popular recently as people look to create the home they want without having to move. On this project we doubled the size of the house by adding a two storey extension to the side of the property and a single storey sun room to the rear. We used materials and finishes to match in with the existing property to ensure that the extension didn’t just look ‘bolted on’.

On this project we sympathetically replaced the frontage of a 17th century property. The existing bay window structures (black and red timber as shown) were rotten and leaking but the clients were concerned that a new installation would take away from the character of the house. We consulted designed and installed this new frontage and the both the client and the villagers expressed their delight with the results!!

Making the most of the land you have!! We knocked down a dilapidated outhouse and replaced it with this extension which doubled the size of the existing bungalow. A new kitchen, utility and bathrooms have created a whole new living area to the property.

With winter starting to feel like it may have an end to it after all, and the financial strain of December and January fading in to the distance,  this is the time people are most likely to start looking at for their new house, or at starting that dream improvement project to the one they already have.

Spring is the ideal time to start looking in to any extension or alteration ideas you may have so that designs can be in place and ready to go for the summer.  Also a fresh update to a kitchen or bathroom will make the difference for those ‘not so’ sunny days!!
