Heritage and Conservation

Heritage and conservation works are in the very roots of D.G.Building, as the company founder and owner was involved in many such projects during his apprenticeship. 

Skills such as lime plastering, traditional brickwork and clunch walling were learned and honed on the prestigious Cathedral and Kings schools buildings in Ely and the surrounding areas, and this passion and interest in traditional architecture and construction continued when the company was eventually formed many years later.

Since then D.G.Building have been involved in many heritage and conservation works on the private properties, schools and colleges around Ely and Cambridge, such as the full renovation of the 18th century Grade II listed farmhouse shown above.

We were also involved in some of the finishing works during the refurbishment of the University Arms hotel in Cambridge, which required new works that ere sympathetic with the period features of the existing building.

As well as having many of the traditional skills required in house they also have relationships with some of the best conservation and restoration contractors in the area.

This means that we can offer works such stone masonry, all types of heritage lead work and traditional roofing, bespoke joinery and traditional plaster and cornicing works as part of our service.
